Dream Regime Project
Dream Regime is an intercultural project to bring performing artists from across Asia and Europe together with an internationally acclaimed Japanese contemporary theatre company Gekidan Kaitaisha, to create a new stage performance for December 2005, that will subsequently tour in Asia and Europe in 2006.
Dream Regime considers hidden histories of cultural diversity in 20th century Asia and the world in an age of continuing migration and globalisation. Its aim is to stimulate dialogues and reflect upon contemporary intercultural arts practice through practical workshops, study-and-discussion sessions, focusing on residency workshop programmes in Wales, Germany, East Timor, Indonesia, Australia and Japan to enable the participation of people from different ethnic groups.
Dream Regime is a three-year project devised by Kaitaish in collaboration with Chapter Arts Centre (Cardiff, Wales) and Schloss Bröllin (Broellin Castle, Germany) to develop a radical new stage production co-produced by the Japan Foundation. In 2004, short residencies at several venues have taken place to facilitate a series of collaborations with local European and Asian artist. These residencies consisted of workshops, discussions, performances and training to consider contemporary questions of developing an approach to a contemporary experience of interculturalism focusing on the histories of certain regions of the world, introduced by Kaitaisha and collaborating artists. These histories have included twentieth century histories of migration and refugees, and the recent histories of East Timor, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Europe.
